FAQ - Black Rubber Mulch

While it may seem logical that black rubber mulch would get really hot, it actually doesn't. The underlying rubber has exceptional thermal properties which prevent heat buildup from the sun and environment. All the colors perform just about the same when it comes to heat retention.  Our black rubber mulch is extremely popular and widely used in the hottest of states like Florida, Texas, and Arizona so you know it will perform well anywhere. Turf, metal playground equipment, plastic grower's potters, etc will all get hotter than black rubber mulch.

The black rubber mulch is coated with an exterior grade special water based non-toxic coating through a special manufacturing process. This coating is both a colorant which delivers its beautiful rich black color and a protectant from nature's elements. The uncoated rubber mulch does not have any coating applied to it. It will have a black-greyish color that is more matte in nature and less refined. The uncoated rubber mulch is not as aesthetically pleasing as the black rubber mulch especially when used for landscaping or playgrounds.

In landscaping applications the black rubber mulch looks fantastic with just about any greenery or flowered plants as it provides a dark contrasting background for plants' colors to pop! While not limited to the following, it works especially well with modern architectural styles, white houses, and black trim (window trim, roofing, etc).
