Favorite Rubber Mulch Church Playground Projects

Let's take a look at some church playgrounds with rubber mulch that we love!  We have worked with a number of churches, other places of worship, and educational institutions over the years to provide the rubber mulch, borders, and landscape fabric for their playgrounds.  These materials establish the foundation for the play area and transform a play set in to a professionally looking, safe, and functional play area appropriate for commercial use.  With these components properly in place, the kids can play with unbridled enthusiasm and joy.  We thought it would be fun to look back and share with you our favorite church playground projects to which we have contributed.  Sometimes we simply supply the required spec material while other times we will provide footprint drawings and consult with our customers on the best approach.  Let's jump right in to it but before we do we just want to note: (i) these are all customer supplied photos so you get an unfiltered view of these projects and (ii) the following projects are in no particular order.

Louisiana Church Playground

This is a great church playground project in Louisiana for which we supplied brown rubber mulch and borders. This project required about 6 pallets of the brown rubber mulch and 21 of the 4" tall rubber borders. The kids at the church used to get bit by mosquitos as the ground cover was previously grass that persisted moisture and mud. Problem now solved. This playground has a nice buffer zone around the play set and curved profile rubber borders to minimize tripping on entry and exit. The large buffer zone also promotes extra area for kids to be kids so they can really run around freely with reduced risk of injury.  We love the clean look of the brown borders, brown rubber mulch, and rectangular design against the blue and white play set. Florida Church Playground

This next church playground in Florida is a real natural beauty.  It takes advantage of the nature by being set near a wooded area, where greenery, birds, and other natural elements ramp up the endorphins.  This playground also used about 6 pallets but of our red rubber mulch which is subtly toned to provide a classic aesthetic.  This church went with a less commercial looking playground made of wood and we love it.  However, they went with a more commercial border in the way of concrete and it balances the wood playground perfectly.  The perimeter design plays a huge role in the success of this play area, including its angled entry lip, kidney bean shape, and again ample buffer space.   View the project here.

Mississippi Church Playground

On the opposite end of the spectrum this church playground in Mississippi utilizes a more commercial style of playground equipment along with traditional commercial playground borders similar to our DuraTimber borders.  They also chose the brown rubber mulch color which works great with the play equipment colors and community vibe.  We love the neighborhood setting that this church is in and how well this playground blends in.  The borders are a nice height to help retain the rubber mulch and here we also see generous buffer areas for the children to run around in and protect while sliding off of the slides.  View the project here.

Indiana Church Playground

This is an awesome church playground in Indiana that took 18 pallets of brown rubber mulch.  We love that this was a community effort full with volunteers to install the rubber mulch.  We love it even more that they sent us photos of the progression of their project so you can see exactly what it takes.  In this case they used a sub-base of rock to provide for stability and drainage but it is not necessary in all projects to take this step.  They then laid down the landscape fabric and spread the rubber mulch.  The end result came out beautiful the team was proud to be able to create a safe, fun space for the community children.  View the project here.

Kentucky Church Playground

This church playground in Kentucky is used for their early education school.  It was an expansion project that also upgraded from wood mulch.  They loved that the rubber mulch made the play area safer and is much easier to maintain.  The black rubber mulch looks great against the brick and contrary to intuition it does not get too hot in the hot sun.   While not very visible in the photo they also use our swing and slide impact mats to help maintain proper rubber mulch depth in the areas of the swing.   View the project here.

Oklahoma Church Playground

This church playground in Oklahoma turned out amazing and received many compliments from the community.  The red rubber mulch with the wood borders produces a stunningly beautiful look.  We love it and the red mesmerizes us!  The commercial grade playset complements the colors and material palette perfectly.   The church loves how this project turned out and how safe the rubber mulch is.  View the project here

Another Indiana Church Playground

Here is another church playground project in Indiana that we absolutely love.  It uses the brown rubber mulch and aboslutely epitomizes a midwestern fall day with overcast skies and orange and red leaves on the trees and on the ground.   This is a larger commercial grade playground that we love because of its simple color palette that keeps the aesthetics clean and natural.  They also use the 4' long interlocking DuraTimber borders which can be formed in any shape.  Here they use a non-linear and non-rectangular layout to create a dynamic play space that is safe and fun.  View the project here.

Brown Rubber Mulch Church Playground in the Fall

Georgia Church Playground

This church playground project is in Georgia and has a large 5,400 sq ft footprint completely covered in rubber mulch!  They required several truckloads of rubber mulch which we were happy to fulfill for them.  We love it because it is more a rubber mulch field with play equipment on it rather than a play area with rubber mulch ground cover.  This sea of brown rubber mulch provides ample area for a large number of children to burn energy on while having extreme fun.   View the project here.

North Carolina Church Playground

This church playground project is in North Carolina and also utilizes the popular brown rubber mulch color.  It was a refresh project to upgrade from wood mulch and they were extremely happy with the results.  We always say that converting wood mulch or other ground cover to rubber mulch is the easiest and most economical upgrade you can make.  As a bonus you also get an instant instant safety upgrade too.  View the project here.
