Bulk rubber mulch...what does it mean? We often get the question: "do you sell rubber mulch in bulk" and the answer is: YES! However, there seems to be some confusion as to what bulk rubber mulch is. Thankfully we're here to set the record straight in the following article. First, if you already know that you need a volume pricing quote, check out our bulk pricing quote form.
Items sold in bulk can mean several things, which is where the confusion originates. Traditionally, commodities such as grains in bulk are stored and sold in larger quantities in an unpackaged manner. For example, the grain would be stored in a silo and moved on a rail car. Merriam-Webster defines the adjective bulk as: (i) not divided into parts or packaged in separate units (ii) in large quantities. Further buying or selling something in bulk can simply mean leveraging economies of scale to buy or sell at a lower price, regardless of packaging or separation of material. So as we can see the type of packaging (or lack thereof) can signal something as being bulk but on the other hand just the quantity of something can determine if it is bulk, regardless of packaging or separation.
When it comes to rubber mulch, you can purchase it in smaller bags (e.g. 1.5 cu ft bags), supersacks (e.g. 75 cu ft bags), or without packaging. When it is sold without packaging, it gets dumped in to the bed of your truck unpackaged. However, the majority of rubber mulch sold is in packaging, whether it is a small 1.5 cu ft bag or larger 75 cu ft supersack. In fact, the supersack is often referred to as a "bulk bag". The rubber mulch in bags on the pallet and supersacks are the same price and contain the same volume. As you can see, it is all bulk:

Sometimes bulk can be a relative term, especially when looking at it from buying or selling in larger quantity perspective. For example we have customers call us and ask to buy in bulk and when we ask how much they need the answer could be 25 bags (or half pallet). For many customers 25, 50, or a 100 bags is a very large quantity and we, like them, do consider it bulk! We would agree because it is a larger quantity than you would typically purchase at a local store and the customer is going to enjoy a lower price than if s/he went to purchase 1 bag at the store.
When a customer calls for a commercial order such as a truck load or several truckloads of rubber mulch, we also consider that bulk. A truckload is typically between 21 to 24 pallets or supersacks depending on the type of truck used. As you notice, we're quantifying the truckload by how many pallets or supersacks fit on it as that is how we sell it and how it is typically sold, even when referring to bulk rubber mulch. Sometimes a customer calls and asks for pricing for rubber mulch in bulk and their expectation, by stating "bulk", is that the rubber mulch will not be palletized or in a super sack, but rather loose fill in the bed of the truck. Unfortunately we do not provide it that way and from our experience our bulk pricing, even with the rubber mulch in the bags or supersacks, is as competitive or more competitive due to the scale and efficiencies we can leverage. Not to mention, without the packaging in bags or bulk bags, it will be much more difficult to offer rubber mulch nationally in a cost effective and efficient manner. When dealing with bulk quantities, "yards" (aka cubic yards) are often the unit of measurement that is used. 50 bags on a pallet or a supersack is equivalent to about 2.85 cubic yards. Our mulch calculator is a great tool to help you determine quantities.
Ordering rubber mulch in bulk does not need to be a scary proposition. When ordering up to 5 pallets or supersacks of rubber mulch you can do it online through our shopping cart just as if you were to purchase any other product online. This is a great option for anyone that needs more than a few bags and wants a no hassle way to get a lot of high quality product at a low price in the easiest manner. One of the differences between ordering a few pallets of rubber mulch and a smaller product such as sunglasses, for example, is that sunglasses are shipped with small parcel shipping and the rubber mulch is shipped with Less than Truckload (LTL) shipping. However, they are similar in that you will receive a shipping confirmation email and a tracking code. With LTL shipping the freight carrier will coordinate an appointment for delivery with you and you will need to sign off on the delivery. The driver will bring the pallet(s) of rubber mulch right on to your driveway. So from checking out online to delivery at your house, the timeline could be as little as 2 days and you just need to be there to sign off on the delivery.
If you are looking for larger bulk quantities, such as truckloads, our proven, refined method and experienced history makes it easy and uncomplicated, taking the anxiety out of the proposition of ordering and moving such large quantities. First, we provide professional, free quotes typically same day to within 1 business day. If you decide to move forward we will process the transaction and then subsequently the delivery will be coordinated with you. We always recommend making space to receive the rubber mulch earlier than you need it. This will ensure you meet your project timelines and avoid any surprises that impact customer, customer subcontractors, supplier (us), and freight carriers, which sometimes can't be avoided. With that said we have an impeccable delivery record and proactive engagement strategy to mitigate issues. When ordering larger quantities such as truckload sizes, there are generally 2 types of trucks that are used: flatbeds or dry vans. The advantage of the flatbed is that it is easier to unload because a forklift can access any side of the flatbed to pull the pallet off. On the other hand, with the dry van, a pallet jack is needed to move the pallets to the opening of the truck for the forklift to engage with the pallet. In general we see dry vans coming in more economical in terms of freight pricing. This all assumes you have a forklift to unload the trucks. If you need the driver to unload, then it will be less economical by a large margin which is typically why we see customers rent the forklift if they don't already have one at their disposal.
To wrap it up, bulk rubber mulch can mean several things but in general it means selling/buying rubber mulch in larger quantities. Our threshold for what we consider as bulk is as few as 25 bags on the pallet and we do not associate bulk with a specific type of packaging or lack thereof. Remember, there are 3 main ways to get rubber mulch in bulk: 1) small bags on the pallet, 2) supersacks, or 3) loose fill without packaging. The latter (item #3) is the least common way it is provided and not necessarily the most economical. At Rubber Mulch Warehouse we supply rubber mulch in bulk via bags on a pallet or supersacks and use economies of scale to offer the best product at the most competitive prices.
